Marking A Burns Referral
If you are referring a patient to a burns service please be aware depending on the size of injury and comorbidities this could mean you might need to refer to different services across the region? All the services work closely together and are able to support you in referring to the correct service please ring your local service if you are unsure or need advice and support.
Admission criteria for each service:

Adults - All level of patient requiring all levels of care
Children – up to 30% total body service area and up to HDU level care

Adult – Up to 40% total body service area with comorbidity admission criteria
Children – up to 5% total body service are and outpatient level of care

Adult - Up to 40% total body service area all levels of care
Children – up to 30% total body surface area with HDU level care

Across the London and South East Burns Network we use a Tele referal systems to help the refering team and burn services to give you the best advice to suport patients that have experienced a burn injury.

The National Burns Bed Bureau (NBBB) is a nationally available resource to aid and support specialised burns services and professionals to identify burns bed capacity and capability in England and Wales.
The NBBB service and the NHS pathways directory of services is also used by NHS England and NHS Wales as part of the national resilience management response to surge, escalation and major incidents.
